Nice chrome bumpers ! Is the veneer still in tact, if it is, you could do the wood yourself ? What's your skill-set ? |

Your veneer is not shot at all. Remember, all the woodwork is bookmatched per panel and also from left side of the car to the other. Professional wood restorers, restore what you have by filling and leveling the missing veneer. Next, the background color is matched and followed by carefully matching the growth lines. Replacing the veneer, or using patches will be very obvious to anyone looking at it. I can show you door caps that were ruined when a restorer decided to sand the veneer which you don't do. New veneer lines were created and the result indistinguishable. |

Regarding paint. The cost to repaint a large sedan today is expensive due to materials, labor, and the size of the car. Alot depends on what you remove, vs what the shop removes. A quality 2 stage paint refinishing , even with the most competitive pricing will easily exceed $10K from a respected shop. I have restored and preserved many Shadows so I speak from experience. |

Mr. Sprauer is correct on both counts. It is jaw-dropping just how much a good woodwork restorer can do when it comes to fixing badly damaged veneered surfaces, including if you're in the unfortunate position to have lost some of the veneer itself. But if it's all still there, even if the varnish is long gone, it's a cinch for a restorer to bring back to life. It will not be cheap, though, regardless of condition due to the careful and tedious nature of the restoration work itself. Brian |
