The transmission cannot be activated with the ignition off. The ignition must be on to move the electric actuator that does the shifting. |

Just to make it clear, when you stop then you select park, when you take your foot off the brake does;- 1) the lever slip out of park but car not move 2) the lever slip out of park & car roll away 3) lever stays in the right place & car rolls away ? |

When the car is off, you can move the shift lever since it is merely an electrical switch, however since the key is in the "off" position, it should not come out of park until the electrical gearbox actuator is energized. |

Sheriffe, Put the ignition on but do not start the engine. Put the parking brake on and block the wheels from moving. Look at the shift servo on the transmission under the car. Have an assistant shift the lever in the car and watch the servo move. The servo under the car should move with each shift. The results of that test will help narrow down your problem. Maybe someone can film the test for you. |

Sorry, just visiting from the Cloud forum and I noted the enquiry above. So in a Shadow the gearlever cannot move unless a person moves it, as it is not mechanically connected to anything. It is just a rotary switch, be it with a limited arc of rotation. So the lever must be moved to, and held in the Park Position until the ignition is switched off. The ignition switch must not be switched off before the lever is moved to park otherwise Park will not engage. Maybe that is where the issue lies? |

David, what you say is right. In late cars it is impossible to remove the key from the ignition switch unless the gear lever is in "P". That is so on my car SBH10630, but I think it is not so on early cars - someone may confirm this??? Alan D. |

SBH19606 will select park when the key is removed from the switchbox, regardless of where the lever is positioned. |

That is fascinating. So if a Shadow has a flat battery and it has to be pushed to a different location, does that mean some special method to unlock the transmission? |

Yes. The shift has has a single lever to connect it to gearbox. You have to get under & remove it |

As you know there are cotter pins to hold the transmission shift rod that connects the actuator to lever, and if by chance one was stranded in park, you could pull, snap, twist, the cotter pin out and then manually move the shift lever on the gearbox. |

Here's a video of disconnecting the shift servo to manually shift the transmission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulbeBUev08k |
