You have a short or faulty item somewhere in the electrical system with a current draw sufficient to heat the ignition switch. Finding it will be a process of elimination.............
I suggest you remove all the fuses on the fuse board and replace each one individually, leave for a couple of minutes and check the barrel for heating. Remove the fuse and insert the next fuse until you find the circuit that causes the barrel to get hot.
Then go to a wiring diagram and find what components are protected by the fuse and then check each component for signs of overheating or excessive warmth until you find the guilty item.
If this is unsuccessful, disconnect all components in the circuit and then connect/disconnect individually until you find the one causing the short circuit/overload.
Patience will be a virtue...................

It's also possible that the switch itself is faulty. Corrosion or poor contact can increase its internal resistance and cause heating.

The use of a infrared thermometer gun to confirm the source!
keep it simple.
