Separately we have discussed the problem of braided hoses deteriorating. In the last week I have seen two of these oozing fuel and one literally snapped in my hand on moving it although the braiding remained intact. Needless to say it leaked profusely.

It is time gentlemen to replace these hoses with conventional items lest a few more of our cars achieve pyrrhic fame!

Bill, you are right, braided hoses are failing. There are new braided hoses made of modern materials that look like the original, supplied from the USA. I also have a copy of the boot to go under the hose clamps to make it look like new.
