What does it mean when someone says their car is a 1A?

Car in question is a 1976 RR Corniche wearing a Bentley nose.

In the early post war days the Mk6 and S Bentley were occcasionally "converted" by the addition of the RR grill and assorted badges, resulting in a usually less than desirable end result for collectors.

I had assumed the reverse was done here by the addition of Bentley grill to RR Corniche to simulate the presumably more desirable Bentley T. While I had also assumed that a late SS with some SS2 features would be a series SS1.5, I guessed that the imaginative "creation" would become a SS1.5B (designating Bentley) and that as such, it was not a Crewe product.

Was anything else done during the conversion, such as hood with proper contours and other assorted badging, or was the task to substitute a grill and call it done?

Looks nice. Wasn't converted to rubber bumpers. Phew.

Get a pre-purchase inspection done.

They are much prettier as a B imho.

Nice fun car.

Yes. Looks very nice, properly converted, and not unreasonably priced. I agree with Paul that the Bentley grill really does complement the curvatures of the body better than the RR. To be sure, I am waiting for a nice early Chippendale dash style "T" sedan to come along...preferably black. Missed just that about a year ago, and grieve whenever I see a nice "T".

Paul,

Is the 1A a real model produced by the factory?

It looks great.
