My SRH8685 has had the rear springs replaced a few months ago. When driving on the highway the car is a quiet as it should be albeit the slight differential hum/whine. Actually more of a hum.
But when I drive over railroad tracks, or change lanes on roads with "cat's eyes" reflectors between the lanes, the vibration/noise that comes through the suspension and steering is "dry"and noisy and not the subdued, and muffled low frequency one would(?) expect. Had the same problem with my Espace MPV and the dealer replaced two front suspension components (the size of long pencils with "silent block" mounts on their ends).
But with the Shadow, things seem more complicated.
Also, where can I find key blanks that resemble the original ( if not a real Yale blank ) Yale key? The aftermarket ones just don't look right.

Hello John. I recall a similar problem with SRH 8058, although it is difficult to compare "vibrations/noises" etc. In my case, the previous elderly owner (who had it since new) was unware that one of the front susp. pin bush "washers" was almost devoid of rubber, thereby allowing a "steel to steel" contact. Since then Ive replaced another susp. pin (oil saturation) incl. new shock absorbers, lubricating the car twice a year. As for the "Yale" key, I bought what were supposed to be the "last" (?) batch of "Yale" blanks (all long sold) a few years ago, being told that such blanks (prior to a point in the 9000 chassis no.series) were impossible to obtain. As a consequence, most people resort to "Sigla", but as you say, it is nice to have the original and if I hear of one I will simply buy it or let you know of a new source. I am relieved to see that I do not have the only Shadow which exhibits a rear axle/diff "hum" at certain speeds, and trust that you dont allow anyone to convince you that because of that characteristic, you car is a poor example overall. I feel sure that other owners will have views re the noise/vibration thereby enabling identification of the causative source/s.

Thank you John, I will go through the front suspension and see what I come up with. Any info on the key blanks most welcome. Regarding the "hum", it has been there since day one (of my ownership) which is 10 months ago. I replaced the diff. oil with an 80 grade product made in Greece(........) with some additives that were supposed to make things better. No difference and the stuff was so viscous that it took forever to fill the differential. I will now replace it with a reputable gear oil and perhaps add a small tube of Molykote or similar product that claims to make things quieter.
The funny thing though, is that I am used the noise, it occurs only under acceleration(80-100 kilometers per hour), but it is not pronounced, and because it reminds me of a jet engine (CFM 56) during mild throttle alterations while taxiing, I actually enjoy it.

Thank you John. If I might, may I suggest that you use a proprietory ("BP/Shell" etc) brand of EP RATED oil (intended for differentials) but WITHOUT any additives. I am a little nervous about additives for Hypoid gear oils, noting that reputed additive specialists such as the U.S based "Slick 50", offer supplements for engine and transmission (manual) oils (and even steering boxes) but to my knowledge, do not supply one for differentials. Interestingly, the feint hum which I have is only audible within the 70-75 kph range at a steady throttle setting which means that I can drive outside that range or simply turn the radio on. I note that your experience is during acceleration, but at speeds well under that which I believe you would routinely experience at "V1" etc!.

Any ideas about where to get a full set of suspension bushes for SRF31065 without going OEM?

Hi Gus,

If you are prepared to purchase overseas, you could try RROC[Australia] club member Robert Chapman who has a comprehensive range of suspension parts available for purchase.

You can access Robert's business through the following link:-

http://www.rachapmanautomotive.com.au/index.html

Only problem is that the current strong Australian Dollar is not in your favour with regard to cost.
