Hi, I'm trying to fulfill a long lasting dream and buy a Silver Shadow. Unfortunatly I know nothing about RR other than loving them. I am looking at a 76 Silver Shadow and am scared of buying something that will cost me the shirt off my back, just to drive it. Is there anyone in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia who may be able to Mentor me in what the car is like mechanically?

Hi Damian and welcome to our Forum - hope you will find the car that suits you with our help. If you haven't already done so; you can use the "SEARCH" button under Utilities on the LHS of the Forum screen to access the numerous posts on this topic in the Silver Shadow Technical Topic - I suggest you will need quite a few hours to go through this information!! Just "Search by Keyword": Purchase "Look in": Text "Search Options": Technical Forum If you decide a Shadow is the way to go [as regular visitors to this forum would be aware; I am biased towards Shadows]; please join the Qld Branch of the RROC[Aust.] and access the Club magazines where there are frequent offers for sale of Shadows with a known history. |

Hello Damien; BEFORE you buy ANY "R-R"(no matter how good it looks!) please have a totally INDEPENDENT check performed PRIOR to. These checks usually cost in the vicinity of $150-200. In Brisbane, I urge you to contact Barry Sparkes at NBS Services 07/38653062. I can also, if needed, recommend other INDEPENEDENT (of sellers/dealers)"R-R" specialists in most states. Good Luck.

Damien, all excellent advice. Definitely speak with Barry Sparks about cars - there are some pretty horrible examples here in Brisbane for sale. Check out the add in Saturday's Courier Mail - I don't know the car or any details but...this is obviously one that would need a thorough "going over" before any offer to purchase.

Hi Damian. Check out the 2 cars on my website http://www.nw-limo.com/ My car (the pink one) cost $12,500, and has had another $10,000 spent on it. But, it is a project car as my hobby is restoring cars and I enjoy working on the Shadow as it is well made and challenging. It is an English import and has had a very hard life. My in-laws purchased a really nice Australian compliance Shadow for $20,000 and they drive it almost every day, we have still had to do some service work on it but overall it is much better than mine even after all the money I spent. In about 5 years time mine will be fully restored, but I won't be driving it much in that time. If you want to drive it rather than restore it then you are much better off spending the extra cash for a good Australian compliance car with a good service history, and a full mechanical inspection by an expert. |
