Is there any place in the speedometer that can or should get lubrication? On taking Her out last weekend, there was an occasional noise from the speedometer, which sounded awfully like a small sleeve bearing which was dry.The needle would quiver some when this ws happening; otherwise it operated as expected. I have noticed this before; I might have already asked this but a search did not show it. Regards |

I would be trying to get hold of a fine graphite or molybdenum disulphide spray for that job. I keep a tin of each in my garage along with a couple of cans of WD40. Liquid oils have a tendency to gum up the works of mechanical speedos. WD40 will work for a short while, although it can be far longer as shown when I used some on a partially seized boot catch of a previous car. Although it's only meant for the short term I only used it twice in the 3+ years I owned the car. |

Don't forget that liquid oils and even some light greases have been known to migrate up the drive cable and into the speedo head with dire consequences for the latter. |

Egad! More Dire Consequences! That's the last thing I need! Thanks for the warning. I'm thinking of taking up a safer hobby: home-built nuclear power plant or something like that. |
