A previous post canvases the rear axle support member and its fragility. In the same region there is an increasing incidence of the collapse of the rear sub frame mounts. These are the legendry pot scrubber units which are very very expensive but very necessary. There are two sets of mounts one at either end of the frame which cope with the vertical loads and the others which bolt on to the front of the sub frame to handle the acceleration and braking movements of the unit. The latter are the most likely to fail and the most difficult to replace. But replace them you must. The most obvious indicator is the movement of the centreline of the rear wheel when is power is applied at rest. The wheel can be seen to actually move forward in the wheel arch. Later the sub frame has so much movement it hits the body under the rear seat with a very noticeable thump. And here is an added hazard. The battery cable lies between the two thumping members. Need I say more???
