I am curious as to whether anyone has ventured into using radial tyres on the Phantoms in lieu of the recommended 8.90x15 cross ply nylons. These function OK when warmed up and the thump taken out of them but they only last about 10,000 miles. The Factory are still adamant that these are the tyres to use but as with the related Cloud series they also will not recommend radials for those cars. The reason is clear, they have no data to make an observation and with the litigious climate we operate in they are not going to drop their guard simply to accomodate people who wish to depart from the recommendation. There must be few Cloud chassis still running on cross plies and any number on today's radial offerings. Given that the Phantom apart from its length is identical to the Cloud, I imagine their steering characteristics must be very similar although there would be a consideration of weight.
