Can anyone tell me the thread size and type for Silver Cloud 57 six cylinder exhaust manifold studs? I need to fix a thread and would like to purchase the correct tap. Also does anyone in Australia sell these studs? |

It is 5/16" UNF, the SAE threads. The studs are high grade steel typically EN24 or 1%Cr 1%Ni, and quite difficult to drill out. Introcar have them.

Benjamin, Do not be tempted to use "high tensile" threaded rod from hardware stores to fabricate the studs as an alternative. These often come from low-cost manufacturers often in Asia and the quality control in their manufacture either leaves a lot to be desired or is non-existent. The OEM studs would be an alloy steel such as En24 [SAE 4340] or similar heat treated to SAE Grade 8 or equivalent specification. I would recommend purchasing the studs from a recognised R-R/B parts supplier such as Introcar as suggested by Christopher. |

Thank you for the advice. For some reason I thought they may have been BSF sizes. I had one snap inside the block, but have been successful in drilling it out. A 6mm Cobolt did the trick. The remnants I tapped out with a centre punch.. Got a new quality 5/16 UNF tap. All clean now. I will purchase the real studs. Don't want to cut any corners. Thanks for the Introcar recommendation. |
