Hi all, In the process of getting the cloud up and running, any recommendations on engine oil, i was thinking Penrite 20/60 or hpr 40. Also where is the best place to buy an oil filter in Sydney. Has anyone installed the flying spares oil filter adapter or something similar? Cheers |

Michael Members are unlikely to recommend any product contrary to OEM, however I have used HPR 40 for several years in our Silver Cloud. Genuine oil filters are priced around the $100 mark. Richard at Spur Parts may have some available. Trust this helps. Regards David |

Michael I have used oil filters from post55parts on my Silver Shadow. These filters are listed for Clouds also, but not sure if it includes the straight 6 engine (you did not mention if your car was a I II or III) http://www.post55parts.com/Oil-Filters-for-Silver-Clouds-Bentley-Ss-Silver-Shadows-Chassis-01001-26700_p_47.html I bought 6 to save on postage charges. Hi Mike, As Geoff mentioned, is your Cloud a I, II or III? My Shadow has been running Penrite HPR30 which is the 20w/60, for 20 years, however I am not a Penrite fan. However after so long, I am totally against changing brands of oil. Do you know what brand or viscosity of oil the car was running previously? Also how long has it been since the Cloud ran? I can highly recommend Richard Treacy of Spur Parts at Mascot, as I buy everything from him. Very dedicated guy who I s always happy to help. |

Patrick, I have no idea on what oil it has been running. The car hasn't been started for a couple of years now. I'm getting everything ready to getting kicking again after some thought I might go with hpr 30 |

HI Patrick, very timely that you ask. i got it kicked over on Sunday!! I Changed oil to Penrith HPR 30, changed oil filter (no leaks), primed fuel pump, cleaned carby pistons and bowls, changed spark plugs and added a 830CCA battery. started with no problem and now starts within a second over turning the key. at the start it was very noisy and showing no oil pressure on the gauge, but i persisted and lifters filled up with oil and was very quiet. I'm confident there is oil pressure as the lifters went quiet but how can i make sure? Is there a replacement pressure switch? to be honest i haven't checked the contacts if they have corrosion so i will do that but it would be good to know where i can source a new switch? |
