I have the opportunity to acquire a Bentley Mark VI which (from photographs) seems to be in reasonable but very original condition. I have not driven it yet but will. It is difficult to arrange a drive as it is located about 3 hours drive north of Melbourne in Australia. It is registered and from all reports running quite well. However before I proceed, is there anyone though who can help me assess the vehicle? Alternatively are there things I can look for? Many thanks David

David, Speak to a Rolls/Bentley mechanic with experience of this model and pay him to go with you to inspect the car.Whatever he charges you will be money well spent whether the car is good or bad.

David, I live in St Kilda Road and have owned a MKV1 since 1985. You would be wise to have the vehicle assessed prior to purchase, fortunately there is an enthuastic group of MK V1 and Silver Dawn owners here in Melbourne who can provide you with hours of advise and identify mechanical aspects you should be aware of prior to purchase. Can you provide me with the Chassis No as I may be able to provide a history of the first owner if it was delivered here as a new vehicle. Feel free to contact me and we can give you our collective knowledge and experience with these great vehicles. |

David, Why not start with the factory authorized Bentley agent in Melbourne? If they can't assist maybe they can recommend an independent specialist who can.

If it's up near the border, maybe contact the Canberra branch of the RROC, there might be someone there that knows of the car, or would be in striking distance to have a look. Marty

Alexander, I am told that the chassis number is B88DA. I would appreciate anything you can do to track the car's history. I also understand that, at some stage, a previous owner was a member of the RROC. Sorry, I should also mention that the engine number is B44D Regards and thanks David

David, My records show Dr Orme of Camberwell as a Victorian club member from at least 1970 to 1989. The earlier rego number is occasionally listed as JRM195.(This makes me think ORM 195 may have been a typo) PS, Don't hesitate to contact Lex, he, and his band of one-eyed MK VI followers have a wealth of knowledge. Does anyone know of a reliable car transporting service that could be used to bring this vehicle to Melbourne from its location, 2 to 3 hours north of Melbourne?

Thank you very much to everyone who has replied. Lex (or anyone else), as it now looks like the car will be transported to Melbourne around mid August, would you be in a position to help me assess it? Regards David
