I was soldering the coolant overflow pipe today and I was surprised to see the actual valve still in tact ?
I read that RR had problems pressurizing the system and that the valve was omitted.

The article referred to it as being "drilled out", although all that had to be done was to remove the spring and plunger.

The spring on the valve is extremely week, so what ever pressure did build up in the system is very little, so little that I have had no issues of removing the rad cap while the engine is at full temperature.

The valve must be working as the failed solder joint allowed coolant to kind of dribble everywhere.

Was the valve omitted or not, or maybe it was after 51 ?
I can't remember where I read it.

This of course applies to my 4.25 liter 51 Bentley.

EDIT:

I did find this from Norman where he talks about the valve.
Also, upon closer inspection, the plunger has been drilled out omitting the valve.
If one looks closely in my photo above, the hole can just be seen.
