I am going to purchase a rebuilt water pump from Flying Spares. A very dodgy AC installation (soon to be removed) had the AC compressor belts tight as iron rods with no adjustment available. I believe this put too much side load on the water pump bearing as the pump is making spun bearing sounds. They recommend that I include the part number of the pump that is currently in use. Is the part number readable without removing the water pump? Thanks. |

Graham I'm not sure the correct answer to your question - others will know better than I, however, please see the link to the cooling system, may provide some answers for you.

Hi Graham, I think the part number is on the front of the impeller casing so it’s unlikely to be visible. You don’t say what your chassis number is but if you send that to FS it can be only one of two pump part numbers for the Mk VI. Before B377DZ you would require RE2602ASXR and from B377DZ to B213GT it is RE12969SXR if you own an R type RE20998SXR. |

I gather David and Martin both know your car well, which can easily be the case if you all frequently post regarding EPW cars. I'd ask, however, what's often asked: Please include your make, model, and chassis number in questions like this. It's the only way someone who does not already know your exact situation could provide an accurate answer. Brian |

Sorry, It is a 1948 MKVI Standard Steel. B340DA. However, I know that the radiator matrix has been upgraded. I am not sure what the difference is in the two possible choices of water pump. Thanks |

The pulleys are different. On yours, it's most likely screwed on from behind, and in order to remove it, you have to pull the entire flange off. Probably this one, in 1948. It's the only one that Flying Spares has to offer where the pully is permanently mounted to the flange. It can easily be identified with the 4 2ba screws holding the pulley onto the flange. If yours is like this, you can see the screws if your remove the fan itself. https://www.flyingspares.com/water-pump-before-vin-b377dz-re2602asxr.html You can get a new water pump from Introcar, as I did; mine was badly pitted from years of cavitation, there was not enough left to rebuild or use as an exchange. https://www.introcar.com/early-waterpump-and-pulley-re2602-x read this article on RR's attempt to keep things quiet, hence all the different pulley, and fan sizes. https://kda132.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Cylinder-Blocks.pdf |

There's where the part number is. And the pulley that I think that's on your car, which measures at 5.75 inches to the outer edges. |
