My experience is that removing the steering Wheel from a Mk.6/R-type is difficult without access to the factory extractor 3243/T1006, or acceptable substitute puller. Does anyone have experience using substitute pullers and if so which Brand/Model is suitable to successfully remove these Steering Wheels ? Thanks in anticipation of assistance. Johnny

Johnny, The steering wheel is not a press fit on the splines. In many cases you can simply pull it off with your hands adter removing the nut. If yours is stuck, I suggest you use a rubber, shot-filled "dead-blow" hammer, thumping on the back side of the hub, moving around the hub as you thump it, and it should come off. |

Hello Bill - Have already tried using both a Three Claw Manual Puller and Three Claw Hydraulic Puller both similar to the Factory Tool, without any success. The Hydraulic Puller applied 10 ton without even budging the Steering Wheel, even after copious applications of lubricant to nut/spline. Will try as you suggest and advise outcome. Many thanks - your assistance appreciated. Johnny
