There is a saying that "If you want anything done right, you will have to do it yourself." The current issue that is stressing me presents the variant to this theme that "If you want it done at all, you will have to do it yourself." I am talking about touch ups to lacquer paint on EPW cars. It was/is my understanding that the old single stage lacquer paint jobs with multiple layers (10 to 17?) as originally applied by RR and B while labor intensive are also user friendly to the extent that spot areas can be attended and feathered into the surrounding areas without doing the entire panel. There are a few fist sized areas on my Silver Wraith where the paint just looks "thin". I'm not sure what is the cause and will try to get photos later this week when I am home from a trip. Here is the issue: I cannot find anyone who does lacquer although the materials appear to be still available. It looks like I am going to have to teach myself to do paintwork. I am sure that there are scads of U-Tube videos but I also ask if anyone has a book or specific reference they would like to share. I am willing to learn and decades ago when I was an apprentice at a classic car restoration shop, the next door neighbor was a classic car paint specialist and it did not seem all that mysterious once you get a handle on the various materials to use and the spray gun technique. All suggestions are gratefully appreciated. . |
