Hi guys, Is there an upgrade to a sealed thrust race for the r type? Alternatively any specs on the bearing, I can't see a number stamped onto it. Cheers Marty |

Martin The MKVI / R type cars used a variety of alternative clutch bearings all 3.00 x 1.75 x 0.5625 inches. Part numbers were RG 5431, RG 6590, RG 7083, RG 8408, RG 8409 and RG 8410. In turn these were listed respectively as Hoffman 4135, Ransome & Marles 6X. L.J. 1.75, Fischer XBL 1.75, Hoffman no number, Ransome & Marles 6XLJ 1.75, and Fischer XBL 1.75. Some numbers were repeated due to manufacturing differences. You should be able to source a fully sealed bearing by quoting the bearing size and specifying a thrust bearing. I know a fully sealed bearing is available but unfortunately I do not know the number off hand.

Do you know if this is the same for the MK VI as well? I may as well order a couple at the same time. Cheers Martin |

Martin The bearing was the same size in all the early post war cars, including MkVI and R type. The various part numbers reflected alternative makers and very fine differences in the design of the bearing cage.
