On behalf of Kurt F (a private person, member of RREC) :

Dear All,

I overhauled my 1939 Wraith (WHC35) engine a few years ago and we noticed that the cylinder head had quite a few cracks especially at the top of the exhaust passages. We tried to weld the cracked cylinder head etc. As the head still leaks coolant I started on a massive project of making a new head in cast aluminium (AlSi7MG/ENAC4200). To make a long story short, I now have a 3D model for the head. With this sand molds have been 3D printed and the first head should be cast next week! The 3D model was made by first 3D scanning the original cylinder head and then drawing the head on top of the scan using the measurements in the original drawings I got from the RREC archives. (This is a C-series engine. The RREC archives do not have original drawings of earlier Wraiths.) The new casts will be first heat tempered to change the crystal structure of aluminium and then impregnated with a compound dissolved in acetone to seal any possible micropores.

Anyone interested in a new cylinder head for their prewar Wraith, please contact me at kurt.fagerstedt@helsinki.fi
The price for a cast would be a fraction of the whole costs I have had in the project.

Please find attached two pictures taken from the 3D model, one photo of the internal sand mold, one photo of the cast setup, and one photo or the original cylinder head of my car.

Kurt Fagerstedt,
