I was going to take my 1939 Harley Davidson out for a run, after a couple of months of storage.
I thought it would be a good idea to take the plugs out and give each cylinder a squirt of WD40 and crank her a few times just in case the cylinders had dried up a bit over time.
All went well with the first cylinder. But whilst squirting into the second cylinder, suddenly the little red tube shot off the end of the spray can and into the cylinder!!!
The engine is a flathead (side valve) so the plug hole is not over the cylinder.
After 5 mins of trying to fish it out, I seriously considered putting the plug back in and letting the engine just burn it and spit it out.

Any ideas if this might have worked??

Luckily, common sense prevailed and I removed the head.

So beware the little red tube guys!!!

A teaspoon of engine oil is good and easy to do
WD40 is bad for the engine .
Why people insist on using a dewatering fluid as a lubricant is frankly beyond me

Trevor, I agree.
Next time buy WD-40 with the attached tube.

You’re right there Trevor.

I was using the WD40 more to help dissolve any slight corrosion there might have been on the cylinder walls than to lubricate.

I usually put oil down the cylinders if I hibernate her for any length of time.

Interestingly though, when I removed the head, there was no cause for concern.
