Mike, The real cause of Bon Scott's death reportedly involved more than alcohol poisoning however for various reasons, it has been claimed the autopsy cause of death may not have been accurately identified and reported. Alexis de Tocqueville observed the potential dangers of The Tyranny of the Majority. (Only less than 50% of Americans vote and it is these minorities who decide who will lead.) De Tocqueville wrote: "I know no country," he wrote, "in which, generally speaking, there is less independence of mind and true freedom of discussion than in America." He added that the lack of great writers in the United States was due to the absence of "freedom of spirit" brought on by a majority intolerant of minority views. "If ever freedom is lost in America," de Tocqueville warned, "that will be due to the ... majority driving minorities to desperation...." De Tocqueville did identify certain elements at work in American democracy which checked the formation of a tyranny of the majority. Among these elements were the large number of independent associations, the press and the courts. In Europe, most critics of democracy believed that America would sooner or later descend into anarchy. De Tocqueville, however, saw another even more disturbing threat to American democracy. He feared that American citizens would become so satisfied with being equal to one another that they would abandon their deep interest and involvement in self-government. If this should happen, cautioned de Tocqueville, government would grow more powerful and in a kindly sort of way cover society with "a network of petty, complicated rules." Far from dissolving into anarchy, American government under these conditions could become as oppressive as any cruel European monarchy. Americans would end up having equality through slavery. EMI basterdized it by deepening her pure soparino voice on the recording (looking backwars to tomorrow. 2) Do You Feel Like I do ,Peter Frampton On an 8 track continually playing in a Kombi on a filthy raining night all the way Mullimbimbi and yes there was some weed being smoked. 3) Utopia - Todd Rudgren High rotation at a party where I first tried acid 4) Triple Echo - The Soft Machine, whole triple album. Music I studied to 5) You Are What You Is / Dumb All Over - Frank Zappa Fairly well summarizes my philosophy on life 6) In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson Graduation parties from high school 7) Surfing With the Alien - Joe Satriani Time with a deer friend who dies way too young 8) No Pussyfooting - Fripp & Eno The first years of living away from home in a variety of share houses 9) No More War - Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs A band from my youth and a song that commerated the end of Vietnam 10) Mugs Game - Dave Warner From the Suburbs My social life till I settled down with SHMBO 11) Ebony Quill - Galapogus Duck Resident band at the old Basement, so many summer nights full of great jazz in the smoke filled rooms that used to flood when the king tides rolled in. Way too many to list the lot. When I moved into the first share house there were 6 people & 6 copies of Bo Hassens - Lord of the Rings So that music takes me back to Homosexuality protest, clashes with the Festival of Light, long nights of deep philosiphical conversations. The next house had 4 copies of Shut Up & Play Yer Guitar - Zappa & 3 copies of Triple Echo - Soft Machine In those days I had an open reel tape deck so was very popular & built up a vast library of badly recorded music. Then there is the stuff that pops into your head as a reaction to where you are or what you are doing I am The Slime - Frank Zappa regularly pops up when rubbish is presented on the TV, Radio or Videos The sefl professed "experts" sprouting garbage instantly causes Linda Nutters "But No One Would listen" to pop into my head. | |||

In the 60's or there abouts I thought Jimi Hendrix (died September 18, 1970, Notting Hill, London, United Kingdom) was the best guitarist to ever live. Best is a hard thing to define, look at the gear Hendrix had then look at the gear Satriani had. Technology makes yesterdays impossible dream tomorrows common place. The team who invented the Fairlight Synth were a customer of one of my customers as they are now doing backing music for TVC's & movies. I don't know if you are familiar with it but play any chord from any instrument into it and it will play back the same or modified chord mimicking any instrument or a full orchestra if you want. Then their next step was to put a reader on is so you can feed it a printed score and it plays back what is on the page, or in their case something that is just different enough to evoke the original in the mind of the listener while being different enough to avoid a copyright violation. Now compare that to what Moog did 15 years earlier with an instrument that took hours to set up & was near impossible to play the same 3 times. I was talking about technique not technology, Hendrix being a left handed guitarist with a big thumb to cross all the strings as a bridge, his style is hard to duplicate. Satriani had a lot of new ways to use his finger rather than a pick to double play the frets on a guitar, flicking a string as he released it and so on which at the time was new and very interesting and took a while to figure out how he was doing it, MTV and a Beta recorder helped (If I remember correctly). Randy Rhoads was very good due to his classical training and work with Spanish guitar training using his right hand in concert with his left to sound like more than one instrument at a time. |
