Hi, as a new member of this forum i would like feed back on the use of personalized plates on RR motor cars. I have an MG B with personalized plates and have no issues (the plates just describe the actual car) but the plates im planning to put on my soon to be acquired Silver Spirit are my surname, i have had them ever since Qld Prestige plates were launched.
 interested in your collective thoughts

 Why not?

They may think you're E.F. Hutton, and, "When E.F. Hutton talks, everybody listens!"

[You have to be of a certain age, and probably from the USA, to get that reference.]

Actually Brian, I am familiar with that, My dad spent a number of years in Alaska and I was often asked if there was any association. plus I probably am of a certain age :-)

RRMC vehicles were always custom-built to vary degrees with options added to the purchaser's taste and cheque book; accordingly there is no specific "standard" model to be used for reference purposes.

For this reason, I can see no reason for you to be concerned about displaying a vehicle with personalised plates. There is a well-known car owned by a NSW club member with cricketing connections that carries the number plate "OWZAT". I expect other contributors will provide their examples of personalised plates.

Whilst custodian of a 1973 Corniche in the 1990's/early 2000's, I ordered a set of plates 1973 RR from the then limited range of combinations permitted by the NSW authorities at the time.

 Love them.....

However we are restricted in UK to only those numbers issued by our licensing authority(DVLA).

Sometimes though these can be tactfully modified and sometimes very tacky modified like 5's become an S and 8's become a B.

Our DVLA now scans the numbers and sells the ones that make up good names/numbers and will not knowingly issue a number that is rude or offensive. Sometimes though they have missed the odd one that has made up a name or slogan and these can sell for £1000's even 100's of £1000's.

We are not able to make up our own names though or titles like some parts of USA and are restricted that no age related plate can be placed on a car that is a newer issue than the year of the car. Albeit there are some ways to get around it like my MGB that was hand built in 2003 with all new Heritage or remanufactured parts. This did however get registered with a 1971 age related plate.

Some rudish ones have got through in the past and perhaps the most famous is PEN 15 then the super ones like T11RBO and our famous DEL 80Y.

Fiona Richmond who IIRC was a sex porn model in the late 60's/70's (allegedly travelling around working out which country had the best performing males) had FU 2 on her e-Type. Sadly never got to meet her

So the moral is 'if you have got it...flaunt it'

Sadly Glen that number would not be a UK type but for sure some country may have it.

Again if in USA states I am sure you could register it as a vanity plate. Even either way

We do have some genuine 'COOL' good ones though......5 EXY and 505 EXY and no need to be thinking of a rear view.......

H 15 is on a Bentley and HER 5 on a BMW with OUR 5 on a DAF truck.

One of my old friends had 4 KOF again all legal and in use reg plates.

All mine are just my initials with numbers and now the RR has been brought back from France and re registered in UK I can get that one off retention and back on the car.

 Patrick,

Mea Culpa - I wasn't sure if it included the "H" and didn't have a copy of Chassis Plate handy to check so left it out knowing a fellow NSW member would correct me if I was wrong.

A photo would be great as the car is a beautiful example.
