Silicon is not a very good lubricant. I don't use it for lubrication. I have found that initially it seems to work but once the carrier fluid has dryed up the lubrication is bad. Its not long lasting.
On a narrow range of materials mainly the thermoplastic plastics it is ok.
A aerosol lub spray that works well on non rubber bits is 3 in 1 oil.
I mention non rubber bits because 3 in 1 oil wreaks rubber very fast. When I was a kid I had a 100E car. The clutch master was leaking. So I put new seals in. I didn't have any brake fluid so I put 3 in 1 oil in it to test it it failed 24 hours later the rubbers fell apart. I should have used water instead. Or wait until I had brake fluid. The rubbers were about 5 shillings. 25p. Now a kit is about 8 quid.
