On Sunday May 27th, 134 cars are expected to depart Beijing headed for Paris, via Mongolia and Russia, to celebrate the Centenary of the Peking to Paris car race on its original route. Click on www.pekingparis.com for news. On this event, 20% of vehicles are Rolls-Royce and Bentleys including three Silver Ghosts and several W.O. Bentleys. I have never seen such a wonderful collection of pre-war cars with over 70% being pre - 1941. Have a look at website!

Further to Jeanne's link, a 1922 Silver Ghost 7KG from across the "Ditch" [New Zealand for our International friends] is competing and have also set up a website:

I am certain their mascot "King Kiwi" [who is an All Blacks fanatic] would appreciate some contributions.

This is getting exciting and I confess to a competitive streak. It's Day 11 and first and second places in the Pioneer category, are taken by two Silver Ghosts - Rick B. from USA ( who has probably driven his Silver Ghost the furthest in the world e.g. Prudeau Bay to Ushuaia but that may be contested by a certain Englishman)and the NZ Ghost mentioned in previous post. Go the Ghosts!

Rick and Tom are still holding first place in Pioneer Category and they are nearing Moscow.Having alternator problems, a couple of flats but otherwise doing well. Both Ghosts are doing extremely well for there have been tough Russian road conditions and of course with time trials as well.Great teamwork between driver and navigator plus a well - prepared and reliable motorcar.May they continue Ghosting along.

The Peking to Paris Motor Challenge 2007 is over, with over 100 vehicles making a grand entrance into Paris yesterday, past cheering crowds into Place Vendome.

Silver Ghost history has been made!

Both first and second places went to Silver Ghosts, from USA and NZ, in the Pioneer Section, winning Gold medals. This means they arrived at their daily destinations within the times designated, reached checkpoints on time and completed all Time Trials, often on appalling roads. Sections were run under strict Motor rallying conditions - this was no picnic. 8th place in Pioneer section was also a Silver Ghost.
Fantastic results and a brilliant melding of driving and navigation skills with very well prepared and reliable motor cars.
Congratulations to these teams and to all who participated.
