That's what i did with mine 5 years ago. It is still there. This part is not stressed and will not be disturbed in any way. The glue will keep it together forever. I didn't use superglue, I think I researched a suitable adhesive at the time.

Flying spares offered me a new one for GBP95 + postage. Not the whole unit - just the black plastic face. I passed on that.
I eneded up with a good complete 2nd hand gear change unit with a good condition face for GBP45 + shipping. i await its arrival from UK.
