Bob UK originally submitted the following post to another thread however I think this deserves its own thread as it opens fertile ground for discussion .

Why is it than when ever music is chosen for showing RR cars they always pick something classical, and usually a bad piece trying to sound like Elgar.

Born To be wild by Steppenwolf would be better.

For those who don't recognise the title, it starts

Get your motor running
Head on down the highway.

If anybody has some better music ideas---------

I also like Mozart but I cannot think of any road music by Mozart.

If I ever again hear Handel's "The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba" as RR theme music I may not be held liable for my violent response.

After the experiences of some of the Darwin or Bust crew, perhaps the early motoring song of the early 1900's could be used.

It was called "Get out and get under."

In all seriousness though, my favourite piece of music sums up entirely what I think is the epitome of Rolls-Royce travel.

The Elizabethan Serenade as played as an introduction to the Mantovani Website on the link below (and composed by a chap with the unfortunate last name of Binge) , wafts you along in serenity and grace, just as our cars do.

Click on the link and see if you agree with me.

How about "King Of The Road" By Dave .Dudley? Or my favorite choice, any travelling song by the late & great Slim.Dusty.

The Royal Fireworks by Handel - played at my (second) wedding 28 years ago. Like the marriage it was rousing but relatively short. It is Rolls-Royce music though - soaring and commanding.

Not being a classical music lover; I have to restrict my selections to the modern genre. These are not in any order of preference [except the first given my position as Shadow Registrar!!]:

"Moonlight Shadow" The Shadows [Mike Oldfield wrote the original vocal version]

"Wonderful Land" The Shadows also Mike Oldfield's synthesized version [perfect for long-distance, swift highway travel]

"Going Home" The Shadows [theme from the movie "Local Hero"]

"Still Cruisin'" The Beach Boys [from the movie "Lethal Weapon 2"]

"Wheels" instrumental from the 1960's - cannot remember the band

"I've Been Everywhere" Lucky Starr [Having a R-R/B gives the urge to visit the Australian towns named in this song!]

"Six days on the Road" Dave Dudley especially for Jim Cowin [Roger Miller also did a version of "King of the Road"]

"Arrival" Mike Oldfield

"Homeward Bound" Simon and Garfunkle

"Rebel Rouser" Duane Eddy

"40 Miles of Bad Road" Duane Eddy

"The Sound of Silence" Simon & Garfunkle

"Homeward Bound" Simon & Garfunkle

"Looking Forward Looking Back" Slim Dusty

"We've Done Us Proud" Slim Dusty [especially the chorus]

"Take Five" Dave Brubeck [especially for late-night parking!!]

"Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Backseat" Paul Evans & The Curls [Wish I could be Fred!!]

No doubt more will come to mind.

Me and my Shadow
Just strolling down the avenue.

can't remember the rest.

But the second lines does well describe how a Rolls-Royce feels on the open road --just strolling.

My dad had the 78 and used to play it on a wind up gramaphone which had a big HMV dog on the inside of the lid.
