I thought I might share this hint with other readers who have struck this frustrating problem. My 1988 Bentley Eight's interior lights mysteriously stayed on continuously for some reason after switching everything off and closing the doors, and I couldn't for the life of me find the cause, until TODAY. The light switch control which turns left and right also pushes IN and OUT. After pulling this knob out my problem was solved! Made my day!

Interior lights: they were like that from 1965 on RR-B at least until the new ignition arrangement arrived in around 1990. Even some Holdens, Opels, Audis and others did it the same way. The driver's handbook explains that too.
