Thanks to Richard Treacy for advice regarding interior lights. Now the radio and aerial will not work (Radio does light up). Could anyone recommend an auto electrician in Sydney familiar with these cars who could check this and other minor electrical faults?

There is a very competent auto electrician in Falcon St at Crow's Nest who is capable of solving such problems. The outfit is located on the South side of Falcon St just before coming to the old Pacific Highway from North Sydney. PS: they stock generator brushes for pre-Shadow cars for those interested.

RT.

I have a 1989 Bentley Eight with a Clarion radio/cassette. For no apparent reason the graphic equaliser lights stop and the sound also ceases. Sometimes this occurs after a few minutes of operation other times the radio works for an hour before the problem occurs. Any thoughts? or I should go straight to the auto electrician mentioned? Hi Laurie,

Two possible reasons for your problem:

1. "Dry joint" inside the graphic equaliser - go to a car audio repair shop for this.

2. Faulty wiring to radio/graphic equaliser possibly a loose ground wire to chassis - either a car audio shop or auto electrician can fix this one.

For problems like this, I would go to a car audio specialist first rather than an auto electrician - see your local Yellow Pages directory for someone near to you. If you can advise your suburb, I have a contact who is a sales representative for a prestige sound/visual equipment [including car units] manufacturer who can refer you to suitable specialists.

Hi Laurie,

Have spoken to my contact - unfortunately the best and most experienced Clarion repairman is at Fairfield; however he is trying to locate someone closer to Lane Cove for you. As they will need you car for a while to do the basic troubleshooting, it is best to get someone close to you. If Fairfield is not a problem, please advise and I will post the details.

Our next Club meeting is on Wednesday 18th June at 8PM at the North Sydney Anzac Club, cnr Ernest and Miller Streets, Cammeray. We usually meet in the Bistro from 6.30PM for a meal and congregate at the Northern end of the eating area [just go straight ahead when you come into the Bistro from the Reception area keeping the servery on your right and ask anyone to point me out].

Hope you can come and join us for our meeting.

David, thanks. Could you give me the name of the specialist at Fairfield as the problem is still there - after a false period of music?
