Hiya Folks...I have been really frustrated...My 75 Shadow now needs a left side height control valve after recently replacing the right one...All was quite well until a lot of brake fluid leaked out again which was resolved after replaced the left one...Here we go again...My problem is finding where to get one, somewhere in the USA...I did get one previously where I sourced it locally, but that place no longer exists....I found a RR used part supplier on e-baymotors, and they said they can get m e one for $175, but i have been calling, emailing multiple contact points which they gave me and have since been unable to receive any responses since....The are called the luxury junkyard and say they have tons of parts exclusively for rolls and bentley...Has anyone else used them in the past? Does anyone know another contact for a Silver Shadow parts supplier. The contact info I was given for the Luxury Junkyard was:

It is likely that a used one that has been sitting on a parts car for who knows how many years will fail either immediately or soon after. Sitting with brake fluid in them promotes corrosion inside not to mention age deterioration of the seals. You should really have yours rebuilt to ensure longevity. I do them regularly, as do other RR specialists. I can send a rebuilt one to you on exchange, or you can send yours for rebuilding.

So can British Tool Works - Kelly Opfar. Who I can recommend.

I have used ones, but as Jim said I would not trust them without being rebuilt.

Well, the question is what caused the leak. The seals in these things will last several decades, on average, but when they blow they can really let the fluid flow.

It's unclear to me whether this is anything beyond needing to rebuild the HCV, which can be done by any competent RR mechanic and is within the abilities of a decent and determined DIY-er (it was actually my very first project on SRH33576). Jon Waples' book, The Shadow Owners' Companion, documents the rebuilding of the HCV, and I know I posted plenty here as far as photographs when I rebuilt mine.

Massive leaks of fluid from HCVs can be caused by a blocked low-pressure return hose. I found out after replacing the seals on both valves and then realised that the problem occured most when the load in the rear of the car was reduced by passengers leaving. The fluid from the rams has to go somewhere and takes the route of least resistance - the seals around the actuating shaft.

I hope this helps.

PS. this was my first significant hydraulic repair, too, like Brian V. Read the manual (from this web-site) and be sure to replace the spool valves the right way round. (How do I know??) Seal kits are available from all the vendors in UK - I use Flying Spares or Introcar, but they are all excellent chaps

Since your system will be de-pressurized and opened, it would be prudent to open, clean, and replace the seal(s) in both restricter valves.
Watch Ronnie's video series on the height control system. He shows how to properly re-build each component.
Finally, go to Marinus' site to see the hydraulic system flow charts to see component schematics.

By the way, I still have HCV seal kits that I put together available for sale.

RR363 Hydraulic Seal Kits

Brian, and there are a number among the readership who've used said kits, as have I, on both my cars
