I'm stripping my block to prep for liners out. Have removed the rear cover, dizzy drive shaft and the two 1/4UNF sets from the brass drive gear. Should I now be able to knock the cam forward gently out of the drive gear? Seems to have moved a bit and stopped. I don't want to beat the crap out of it! | ||

Here's an extract from Tee One Topics.  It doesn't actually answer my question, once set screws are out, should it just pull off? I assumed for timing purposes there's a woodruff key. | ||

The distributor body is rotated to set the timing, so the orientation of the distributor drive gear to the cam doesn't really matter. It does matter that the orientation doesn't change, but the offset set-screws see to that. The TeeOne topic certainly suggests it should just come off. Any luck with heat? Cheers, Jeff. | ||
