I am in need of removing the timing cover from my 1939 Wraith.

Helpful hints are most welcome.

At present the issue is how to remove the cranking dog and the nut behind it. It seems that a socket driven via an extension bar through the crank handle oriface may do the trick but we are not absolutely sure of which way to turn it (when view ed from the front of the car) and with what force.

Wayne,

This nut is RH thread and it is going to be very difficult to get off. Usually the radiator is removed to get at the gearcase.

What you must not do is put the car in gear with the hand brake on and pull like hell with a socket and long breaker bar. That would very likely put a twist in your crankshaft, and the torque you will need will probably slip the clutch anyway.

Take the nut off with impact. Proper tool is a slogger bar, and an impack wrench will also do it, but if you go in through the front with a long extension that will reduce the effectiveness of the impact wrench.

Think you should start by removing the radiator. Good luck.
