Service kits are not repair kits.

By all means if a non critical bit has a defect then try a service kit, but if it does not work then get a replacement.

AC Delco used to do service kits for mechanical fuel pumps which ate meant to be fitted at say 50k intervals. If a pump does go pear shaped then the assumption that a service kit will definitely fix it is incorrect. Because they wear in places that are difficult to repair.

Clutch hydraulics are like this. A new rubber cup in the slave May work and it may work on a worn bore or maybe not. Usually the buggers if ok today leak not long after overnight.

In pro garages things like wheel cylinders and clutch slaves we don't bother. Because we can't be having the customer flack when the clutch does not work and they ask for cab fares.

I could tell loads of anecdotal tales of worn bits overhauled using service kits that have gone wrong and the other professionals on this forum will also know a few.

I have witnessed loads of car bits properly overhauled and the amount of operations the recon companies do to achieve as new results are always more than one might think.
