My Mulsanne recently failed its Spanish ITV (like an MOT in the UK)roadworthiness test because there was a leak from the accumulators. I had recently renewed the spheres and assumed I had not tightened them up sufficiently or had trapped the O ring and not created a good enough seal but when I looked colsely it appeared that the leak was coming from the front accumulator valve body.

I managed to get this off the car, not without some difficulty and a lot of swearing, and I have had it refurbished by a specialist nearby but I am struggling to get it back on the car.

The problem is the poor access to the support bracket. I have removed the air filter pipes and the heat shield from the maifold but the bracket is surrpounded by pipes, chassis members etc. and partly behind the power steering pump. It seems to be a job requiring three hands but only enough room to get one hand in for any non-contortionist with normal sized hands.

My question is, does anyone have any tips as to how to get this done? Do I need to remove the power steering pump or are there any special tools that can help?

I am attaching a photo – a bit difficult to see the valve body newly painted grey by the refurbishers but then again, this is my problem.Valve body access

The top screw was the most difficult to get in. After sleeping on the problem I came up with the idea of disconnnecting one of the power steering pipes, which obstructed access, tying a piece of thin wire round the screw and washer to get it into place, holding it with one finger and, with some wriggling, getting a cut down spanner on it and turning it enough to get the thread started. Success!!

Now I am stuck on getting the high pressure pipes to screw back into the body of the valve. There is a rubber insert which is a bit of a pain as you have to get the tube through it, without kinking it and then pushing it into the body so the union will screw in. I am finding that if I push the rubber right into the hole, the pipe won't go through it, and if I get the pipe in it first it is too big to go into the hole. I will have to sleep on this problem now I reckon.

Any tips gratefully received.
