Hello all, The armature from the air conditioning compressor on LRH 8376 decided it was time to let go, and did so just recently. Obviously I am hoping to have the issue addressed ASAP and I was wondering if this repair would require the experienced hand of a RR specialist or was it an opportunity for a mortal motor mechanic? Hi Shane, The most common reason for this is the compressor seizing up. Does the compressor central shaft spin freely? If seized you need a whole unit. Common to lots of other vehicles, so non R-R is fine. | ||

It's a common Delco A6 compressor. Any of your WA shops will know it backwards, although the series is long in the tooth these days. Regular WA aircon shops could, I am sure, teach the rest of the world quite a bit ! Spares are available, but you may consider fitting a Sanden 510 (5-cylinder) or 709 (7-cylinder and interchangeable with 509) as introduced from 1987 onwards. There are bracket kits to suit the conversion. Your shop will easily repair the A6 compressor whether it has seized or not, but there's nothing like a new one out of a box. A new clutch solenoid is not a big deal at all if that is all that has failed. RT. | ||

Many thanks Paul and Richard, The central shaft turns when I grip it with finger and thumb, however it doesn't spin as such without deliberate mild force. I will take it to the best technician locally to endeavour to get it repaired and will definitely look to a replacement if repairs prove uneconomical. Thank you both once more! |
