I have been thinking for a while that I would like to establish a parts register for the Silver Cloud where new parts can be obtained locally here in Australia (Preferred but not essential) at significantly better pricing than Specialist dealers for any item whatsoever that the car uses or needs. I thought if this because I went to tune the car (was running rich, but now tapping and running rich), but wanted a new air filter element first. I've already learnt to go to S.U. Midel for carby parts, and was looking for a good aftermarket air filter. I finally found a tractor parts supplier who stocks a filter for a David Brown / CASE tractor of the right dimensions. That one is about $28. I found another for $12.50, but it is 8mm higher and may not fit. Still at $12.50 I was thinking about trying one. I bought some corrugated air hose from Qld Diesel Spares a few years back for the princely sum of $50 including 2 stainless steel clamps (I don't care that they are not the original rusty steel numbers). It looks excellent and at that time POST55 didn't have their product to order. When I saw the FS price I almost died, so was motivated to find an alternative.

A simple spreadsheet would do with website, part number, price etc. Just to whet your appetite here are a few filter people who stock filters that will fit SCII or SCIII:

David
My thoughts, whilst it is prudent to reduce the running cost of any vehicle where possible, I feel the support of specialist suppliers is in our long term best interest.
Some off these suppliers are now having items re-manufactured to meet our needs, with small product runs and keeping slowly moving stock, are in some cases hardly financially viable.
Also the parts supplied are often equivalent to EOM and don't need to be modified to fit, saving time and frustration.
In regard to pricing, some specialist suppliers will offer discounts if we just ask.
Regards
David

Hi David,

While I admire your conservatism, and am also not interested in modifying parts to fit, I really don't want to pay $500 for a hose that might normally retail for $50 elsewhere.

By sharing information with my fellow enthusiasts as to where I can reliably save money, I will have more available to spend on goodies I can't obtain other than from "specialist suppliers", at their "specialist supplier prices", and so will my fellow enthusiasts.

If anyone has any alternative part links for the SCII that are worth knowing, I'd be keen to hear.
