Interesting little electrical job.

Beford TL horsebox.

We fitted a second alternator a 28 amp Lucas ACR 15. This alternator charges a starter battery. The battery is only wired to the starter. The starter circuit is wholly independent of the rest of the electrics. The other alternator is a 100 amp Motorola which runs the rest of the electrics and charges 2 golf cart batteries. Deep cycle jobbies.

This set up allows the lights etc to be left on. The starter battery will still be charged.
Also a 1 kilowatt petrol genny. Which is in a box under the floor. The genny lifts out and is used via an extension lead plugged into a small 10 amp charger.

I would have prefered an ACR 18 alternator but its what was available from the scrap yard. However the horsebox is started and run without turning off for at least an hour every time it's used.

The original system had a charge splitter which never worked properly and also nearly caused a fire.

Smashing 6 cylinder in line diesel about 4.5 litres silky smooth.
