There is an interesting item on the other forum in which an owner had an accumulator explode. This is the first time I have heard of this happening. The car in question had not been moved for 13 years. The new owner had got the engine running and had carried out some replacement of the brake lines. On running the engine and attempting to bleed the brakes the accumulator exploded. Most likely cause was a seized ACV preventing the return of brake fluid to the reservoir after operating pressure had been reached. The car is an early model so the pumps did not have the failsafe waisted pushrods. Pressure kept increasing until the inevitable happened. Fortunately the owner was not injured. | ||

Hi Ross Pictures have been requested but have not appeared yet. If they do I will ask permission to put them up here. The two halves of the sphere were blown apart. Quote: "Suddenly with no warning the front sphere blew apart very violently ,wrecking the threads and blowing the accumulator clean off the engine breaking the bolts in half in the process!" |
