Some people can be down right nasty and say the Camargue has an ugly front. I can live with that but this morning as I trolled the net internationally, I spotted a RR which appears to been flogged through Bonhams for $198,000 last year. Just a word of warning if you have children in the room you might like to send them out to play on the highway so they won't be scarred by the sight of this 1954 Silver Wraith Vignale. Just google it. I tried to upload the photo but again it was too large and that's probably a good idea because this car is so so ugly that I feared David would kick me off the forum for posting it there. It of course comes with a toilet in the rear - yes toilet of all things. This ultra monstrosity was cranked up by Carrozzeria Alfredo unbelievably. The Italians have penned some wonderful designs and indeed the sister city of Zhigulovsk Russia is named Togliatti after a famous Italian Communist. The deal was Fiat set up a Lada factory to make the Fiat 125 under licence and the whole caper would be paid for in exported Russian steel (naturally of poor quality and hence its hard to find a 70s Fiat or Alfa that hasn't rusted away.) My point here is prior to the production of the Lada and naming Togliatti Togliatti, somebody in Stalins top circle must have force fed Alfredo with a horrific amount of vodka to come up with such a shape. If you have problems with your eyes sighting this thing will make things worse so be warned. If I was super rich I would pay money for this car never to be driven in my area of the outback because it would surely drive the real estate market down if it managed to proceed. I will never be the same after seeing the front of this car and the question is "What were they thinking" |

Uh, yes. To say the design of this car is "in questionable taste" and is the nightmare of virtually any automotive enthusiast or designer is an understatement. Bonhams Auction Online Listing Brian |

Brian, you international man of mystery, how exactly did you post that photo of the forum? I looked at the back of this car too, and the rear tail light set up reminded me of an early model Simca and the rear window slant of an early model Ford Anglia. The front area of the car reminds me of a spider's head and the under light area is beyond crazy. But its the toilet under the back seat in the back that I find astounding. I just can't get my mind around why you would not prefer the bush at the side of the road. Perhaps the original owner was blind and incontinent! |

The only phrase that could describe this monstrosity is: Stevie Wonder shows off the 'cut-and-shut' car he built with his own hands. It couldn't look any worse even if it had different headlights on each side. |

Vladimir, I snagged the photo from one of the websites that `feature` this car, and there are quite a few. Getting photos into posts is quite easy, provided your photos are a maximum of 640x480 pixels in size (in either direction 480x640 is fine, too. The easiest way is to type the following (with a sensible description, of course) on a line in your post where you'd like the picture to be inserted: When you hit the Preview/Post Message button, you will be presented with small squares that read "Your Image Here" where your images will be inserted. When you finally post the message, you will be presented with a picture selection/upload dialog, where you pick the actual picture on your computer that gets put into the post itself for each of the entries you have placed in your original text. This is also documented on this page on formatting images on the forums. If you don't care that the images appear inline in the post, you can also use the Upload Attachment button at the bottom of your post compose screen to upload a picture or pictures as attachments before actually posting. I just generally prefer images to be inline. Brian |

Mr Hungs Special Order of the worlds most expensive Rolls Royce Phantom for his Macau Casino. Is pictured above proof that taxes in UK should be raised for the repurchase of Rolls Royce away from German ownership ? I have a rusted Lada Niva in my yard. It was made in Togliatti Russia. I does not proceed - it rusts and has been flogged in front by a backhoe to prevent it from burning when the previous owner of my place lit up a fire to get rid of the grass on the council land next door. I took a different approach and phoned the council, informed them I pay over a thousand a year for them to provide me with a land rates bill and nothing else and that I would sue the daylights out of them if any fire crossed my fence line from their side pointing out that my Cadillac, Jaguar and Camargue might not like to burnt. They now mow the grass on a regular basis without me having to call them. The Lada is an eyesore but I can't part with it because its says in Russian on the gauges "Made in CCCP" I'm sure you all know that C is S in Russian and that P is R in Russian so CCCP which young Yuri had on his helmet when he left the planet on a kerosene powered rocket simply says Sovietski Socialistcheski Soviet Republic which has now gone the way of the Dodo. The interior of this Phantom has to be directly related to the interior of the Lada given the blandness of the seats. I accept the demur that the Australian sun had cooked the interior of the Lada but you can still make out its design. If that's what obscene amounts of money can provide I will stick with the British concept of a fine interior circa Cloud, Shadow and keep the loot. |

Please do not make us suffer from any more pictures of this abomination. They make me feel sick that such could issue from any Rolls Royce factory. |

Zappo, So Sorry Jan but I just can't help myself, its soviet payback for the BBC getting rid of my mate with the politically incorrect yap and behaviour - Top Gear will never be the same. Take note of my cat's facial expression when it saw these photos of the Round Door Rolls. It has according to Petersen's Museum a similar effect on the human species when driven in public. But you could not argue that the steering wheel while not compliant with Australian Design Rules is guaranteed to give the driver a charisma bypass upon impact. What are the 3 controls on the centre? Spark advance, indicators, high idle and flame throwers and or rocket control? This vehicle is indeed said to be a handful to drive, the brakes are terrible and the rear end so long that it will vandalise even a shallow driveway - surely the way to go if you want to impress your new hot date. I have a very wealthy farmer here who will part with mega bucks if I knock one of these cars up on my upcoming English Wheel and he wants of all things the fin on the back too. Mind you - I want one too without the fin or flutes on the back but with a diamond shaped rear window with concave stainless steel surround and a V16 engine to match my V16 personalised number plates - so who said Toad of Toad Hall was a fictional character. The speedo is superb but I don't think Flying Spares has one to sell, it looks like a one of. This car is quite simply essential. |

The "round door Rolls" [AKA 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Jonckheere Coupe] is another car that is widely featured on various automotive enthusiast websites. I vividly recall seeing a picture of the thing in its pre-restoration-as-found-in-junkyard condition. I've actually always quite liked this car, but I don't think that black is a color that does anything for its idiosyncratic coachwork. Normally "black is slimming" but, in this case, it seems to me to make everything look bigger when some of those things could use a bit of deemphasis. I would never call it beautiful, but it is about as distinctive as can be without descending into unspeakable design horrors. Brian |

That 'round door' Rolls reminds me strongly of the first Batmobile as featured in the 'cliff-hanger' weekly serials of the same era. Obviously I don't remember them from the first time round, but they were still being shown in 'flea-pit' cinemas in the 50's and early 60's. Basically it was just a standard saloon car with a bat wing fin tacked on the back. |

The mother never thinks her baby is ugly. Homer Simpson designed a car. Lady Docker the wife of Daimler's owner designed many cars which eventually busted Daimler.
