Some people may have seenn the Top Gear story recently of a race between a car and a light plane from Italy to London. Also very recently a race took place between the Ghan train, and a car, from Adelaide to Darwin. The car was a Landrover Discovery and it won, even though its driver arrived exhausted after the 3000Km run. The same article also mentioned a 1939 race between the two transport modes, from Cannes to London. The car was driven by Bentley boss, Woolf Barnato, who wagered £200 that he could beat Le Train Bleu over the 1120 Kms from Cannes to London. Barnato won easily. |
