I am aware that section K of the SZ manuals is damaged - probably a failed diode!!! Richard has provided me with a new file which I will install. Unfortunately the software for this site is somewhat specialised and so far it appears one cannot cut and paste where errors occur - which they will. So it is out with the lot and reinsert. But it has all been worthwhile and according to the 'hit meter' well used. I also appreciate the personal messages we have received thanking us for this, what we consider, a valuable resource. What has been highlighted is the extraordinary facility afforded us by the World Wide Web. In the past when we wanted information we bought a book or visited a library or asked someone. The latter is often not practical and the former are time consuming and expensive. Today it is inconceivable that the contents of entire libraries would be available on the internet but I have given up using words such as 'impossible, ridiculous and never' having lived in a permanent state of amazement over the last 20 years!. This web site, however, is principally involved with the maintenance and restoration of Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles. Our interests are dynamic. If you want to know the air gap of a switch or the torque specifications for pulling a cylinder head down, you need it now. Libraries which hold this information, which is not only important to you, the owner or operator, but to the car, are often inaccessable by virtue of staffing or distance. Act on the wrong or guessed information and a lot of damage or even destruction of the car can occur! All of our cars are getting old and bits are failing. Assuming you could drop the car into the nearby specialist you have three problems. First is to find one, second is to afford one and third is to keep parting with your car for fixing! So we, to name a few, Richard Treacy, Tim Dean, John Richardson and Lex Lynch have scanned, copied, edited, sorted and uploaded basic material for everybody's use and edification. And lastly but quite vitally we have our site Administrator to thank, who somehow steers all of us through the perils of scam, procedure, facility and traffic management to make this Federal site probably one of the best in the world. It seems that opportunity knocks or perhaps we use the exression that Plagiarism is the best form of flattery. Anyway one of my more impatient friends dropped by the other day with a CD he had bought from an enterprising gentleman which contained a lot of information on Rolls-Royce cars. Since I seem to do nothing else these days but scan and upload and download from others to sort, edit and re-upload, one gets to know these many pages, hence what should I find on this 'commercial' disc but material clearly downloaded from our very own web site! How do I know? Well the odd coffee stain or torn corner or the punch holes being a funny (but memorable) shape all helped with identification. It really doesn't matter since the entrepreneur is getting the information out which is what the original exercise was all about but I would have thought a little note acknowledging the source might have been nice. The arrangement with the owners of the many copyrights is that they have no problem with duplication and dissemination as long as it is not done for profit. Funny world isn't it! | ||

Hi Bill, In this instance where the plagiarist is obtaining commercial advantage from copyright material; we should refer the relevant details to the copyright owners for their information and follow-up as appropriate. In the meantime, I think a strongly worded "cease and desist" notice from us should be forward to the plagiarist as a matter of urgency. I will be happy to assist should you wish. | ||

David, We scanners would wish to ignore this fellow. The current exercise is achieving what we aimed for and if he chooses to get in on the act so be it. As to commercial advantage I doubt whether he will challenge Bill Gates to his position on the ladder. The scanners who now straddle the world are all busy doing their bit, at I might add, some little expense to themselves but at great cost to their free time, and the last thing any of us want is a brawl however tempting it may be. I should add that the person of interest as they call them these days has been flogging manuals on eBay for ages and nobody seems to care so good luck to him and hopefully he may learn to appreciate the comfort of good manners. | ||
