I have the choice of copper/asbestos sandwich type or modern composite type. The stated advantages of the composite material is that it does not promote electrolysis between the aluminium, copper and steel, (which, considering the condition of the R Type head may be a very good thing!) The composite is 1.5mm thick, and needs to be re-torqued in the same fashion as a copper sandwich gasket. Any thoughts?? Marty |

In the US this type of gasket was in use in the mid-70s and was superior in almost every way. Raced an aluminum engined Vega and had no problems with blown head gaskets as was common with the cheaper OEM solution. |

Hi Bill, I was speaking to a guy today with 2 Phantom III's, and he uses the composite gaskets on the V12's. The has also sent them to the states for PIII owners there. He had them made by ACL Specialised gaskets in Brisbane, but the guy there is on hoidays, and I need my MK VI back on the road by the 17th of may. I am waiting (not so patiently) on a new composite gasket to arrive from Melbourne. Cheers Marty |
