HELP someone. We bought a gorgeous 1988 Bentley Turbo Long wheel base right hand drive on Saturday. Drives (well did) beautifully. Sunday we cold started it, moved it out of the shed and switched it off. Went to restart it. NOPE. nothing since. It cranks, but wont start. Are you supposed to hear the fuel pump, as we can't hear it. Yes, it has fuel in it. Has a battery isolator in the boot, so we disconnected that, connected, still only cranks. We did however find a key fob in bits in the console, so put it together again, nope. It did have a cobra alarm, which is disconnected. Cannot find a wiring diagram for out car either. We have an auto elec coming out next week, he will be surprised. Any ideas? |

Be careful.....more often than not, the "specialists" will make things worse with their crazy work arounds causing you more anguish in the end. Often the alarm battery goes bad and completely immobilizes the car. |

Felicity, your car is 1988, but is it a 1989 model year ? If so you will need TSD4848 . This is available from Flying Spares. The 1987 and 1988 model years are on TSD4701 , again available from FS. I have had this car date and model date problem with both my Bentley8 and Mulsanne S. Mark |

Thanks Mark. I have already downloaded the TSD4701 diagram. It is 97 but 1988 model. Pretty sure its an imobiliser issue. Have crank, have lights, ignition etc. BUT, the key fob is broken and in bits, has a yellow and green button, but unsure which way up they go in order to fix the fob. UGh. |

Hi Felicity, You can hear the fuel pump(s) when turning on the ignition. At a RREC seminar we were advised to wait until the pump(s) stop before starting the car. Under the cover near the right hand strut are a number of relays. Two are in the starting circuit. The fuel pump relay also resides there. If you haven't already you could test them by substituting a wiper relay. I have replaced all of the relays on our 1990 car because I've had three fail in the last eighteen months. Two in two weeks.
