Hi, I have an Australian delivered 1978 Silver Shadow 2 with electronic ignition and I would like to replace the ignition coil. The original unit is a Lucus 45281A. Is there an alternative part number that I can purchase in Australia. |

Hi Michael, I'm no expert when it comes to a coil,in saying that I replaced the coil and electronic ignition on my 79 shadow last year. I got all parts from flying spares UK, from my limited knowledge on this topic I believe a 12 volt 1.5 ohm coil should do the trick. So if ya have an really old motor factor/part store near by, they may have a universal coil (12volt 1.5ohm) to suit you. I'm sure others will argue ye/nay . |

Thanks for the advice I will do some more research and see if I can match these specs to a local coil. I did order a suitable coil from a UK supplier only to find out 2 weeks later that they couldn't supply. I was hoping there might be a coil that suits a Jag or landrover suitable for the Shadow 2 electonic ignition |

I put an ohm meter across the original coil, the readings I got were primary 0.8 ohms, secondary 4550 ohms. Would any body have the specs of what the coil should have? |

"1960 to 1982 when fitting our electronic ignition kits ELEC2, ELEC3 or ELEC4." So the 1.5 ohm coil is not the OME original coil used with the opus system.. Data in my Sun book shows what I have already shown ie

Hi Patrick Do these specs relate to the Australia, USA and Japan. As these countries have a different part number coil than the UK, Europe etc. Regards Michael |

Michael for the year given all RR models with the Opus system including North America emission type are the same specs. BTW most opus probs occur with the pick up module after time. |

Michael, Why do you want to change the coil ? According to the Internet the Lucas 45281A is a high energy coil suitable for electronic ignition. The resistance of 0.8 ohms would tend to confirm this. However depending on the resistance of the new coil you may need to also replace the ballast resistor and a new coil may also require a different high tension connection. You should probably take your coil to a specialist for advice. |
