So about a year ago the Purple RR Spirit arrived on a truck and was delivered by a twit transporter who was dumber than three chickens. He had driven the truck down from another city two hours north of Bowen with the boot/trunk lid open because the damn thing would not latch and had busted the rear light lenses but did not admit it. Naturally I wanted to put a distance between him and the car immediately because I summed up in an instant that he was a clumsy nutbag. I then had to drive the car two and a half hours on a permit to get it to my country lair. The lock appeared damaged so like a loon I taped it down with gaffer tape. A year later I removed the tape but the glue on the tape adhered to the stunning metallic deep purple paintwork like aradite! I tried every thing to get rid of this mongrel glue. Acrylic thinners, prepsol, etc and the only thing that would remove it slowly was mentholated spirits with a lot of elbow grease. Now the lock works if I use my finger to pull the latch tang down before closing the boot lid. I will take me about 40 hours of labour to remove all the glue. Believe me that rotten gaffer tape has something in it that bonds to the paint mercilessly. |

Well Ivan....as much as I hate the bloody stuff, WD40 does have a use and works very well at removing gaffer and masking tape residue without paint damage. So does my favourite, Penetrine....which is getting harder to find. I bought the last eight cans from my local Repco |

Vladimir... There is a product in USA called "Goof Off" which I erroneously identified in another recent thread as "Goo Gone" where one of the uses touted by the manufacturer is the removal of tape glue remnants in addition to chewing gum, crayons, lipstick, and the like. Never tried it so have no idea whether or not it actually works for that circumstance. Small bottles are about $4US so if not available in your locale, even with shipping added in it may still be worth a try if the WD40 doesn't do the trick. . |

I have to admit Vlad, the few times I have used gaffa tape, it never ended well. Top product, horrific residue |

This does the trick too, if you're okay with a strong smell of oranges. Available at Woolies, et al. |

I remember when we used to use it in the little squat can with a long spout and you pressed the bottom to give a squirt....best rust buster ever made and it was an Oz invention. |
