Disaster just happened. Today, at the Techno Classica Motorshow in Essen, Germany, I let a well known locksmith, specialised in car keys, make a duplicate of my key, as I had only one. During the dupliction he destroyed beyond redemption. He made me 3 other different keys as he was sure one of them would fit. Of course none did and I know have a stationary Silver Shadow II. I do have the key n°. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem ? Benoit |

Benoit, I have no idea how he damaged the original - you should name and shame them if they didn't give you a satisfactory reason for the damage. PM me your key number if you like , I may have one here, if not I can order from the number if you are interested. I hope the car wasn't at the show with you! |

This morning I decided to take out my minitiature hobby grinder and excercise on the 3 keys that did not fit. If it went wrong I would lose nothing. Well, I just discovered that making keys is not that hard as I managed to make one that is a perfect fit in less than 5 minutes ! Paul, I'd still like another key however, if only for peace of mind. Glad you were able to conquer the problem. Your well-known but obviously incompetent locksmith should have been able to do what you did. I lost my set of keys to a locked pickup, called a locksmith to meet me at the truck, he arrived before I did, was already in the driver's seat doing the final filing to make sure the key he made for the door worked in the ignition without problems. Charging my credit card took more time than making the key. I would find the web page or other internet source for the locksmith and post a scathing review. |

Benoit, I ordered a few keys for my cars from enquiries@express-keys.co.uk and they arrived very quickly by post. These guys cut them to the number you give them and charge peanuts for the service. I cannot reccomend them highly enough. good luck. Omar |

I have a similar problem on my T1. Where do I find the code number so a key can be made?

Hi Gary, You will find it on the build sheets for your car - these are available from Hunt House in the UK for a reasonable cost and contain a lot of interesting information about the assembly of your car. You just send them your chassis number and payment and watch your letterbox.... http://www.rrec.org.uk/Contact_Us.php |
