I have a shdow 1,the car starts ok when cold and on choke, the engine then quickly dies down to a smooth idle. But when the car has had a run for a few miles, the engine turns easily but takes a while to fire, also sometimes when it has started it will cut out unless reved for a few seconds after starting.chassis no srh 19164.Any advice welcome, thanks.

Unfortunately not Nigel,we are at the latter half of winter/spring here in blighty, temp between 2-10 degrees c.If it is fuel evaporation is there anything that I could do.This is my first shadow and I don't want to do any undue tampering, thanks Mel.

Hi Mel, I'm off to bed now. Morgan Lodge Installation in Malvern tomorrow. So I will consult with others over the festive board.

Just off the top of my head I would suspect a faulty oil pressure switch or even low oil pressure. The fuel pump has a cutout if a too low oil pressure is detected so that the engine stops rather than getting trashed due to running with no apreciable oil flow/pressure. The switches fail due to age and can be disconnected although this would deactivate the safety feature. Best to have the oil pressure checked with a proper oil pressure gauge before going down that route. Even then a new pressure switch should be obtained and fitted.

Hi Mel. Do you give her a bit of gas as you turn the key? She might be just a little weak, they like plenty of petrol you know!
