Can someone tell me where it is located. On MkVI, R, S, SY2 and SZ cars it is on the thermostat housing. I can't find it on two early SYs (1966 and 1968 with the gauge). I changed one on a friend's stunning SCIII Koren Chinese Eyes convertible today no problem, likewise a few weeks ago on my SZ and an S3 Continental Koren, but alas I need help or to pore through the documentation and snoop around the motors of the other two.

Many thanks,

RT.

Hi , Back of the b bank head.

it's a green top one.

Often easier from below if you can get the car on a ramp.

Paul,

Thank you so much. I wonder whether it may ber better to reposition the sender below the thermostat and on earlier and later cars ? I am fitting one to a 1971 model which never had a gauge. I am intended to drill and tap the thermostat housing to suit a 1/8 NPTF thread unless there is some greater wisdon. I understand that the gaude was deleted at Chassis 9000 because they always over-read, presumably because the sender is poorly located on earlier cars.

RT.

On most cars the rear of the cylinder head(s) is the place that is least well cooled, so it's the best place to put the temperature sender. By definition it's also the place that warpage can first occur so you would want to know how well this area is being cooled - or not of course.
