Well I finally got the old girl front end back together and took her for a test run.The handling was unbelievable with the new parts installed. No more shuddering under breaking and ride quality has improved 100%. However I now have a ticking noise behind the dash.It seems to originate form the 'speed o' or the ignition module. I have had the car "skew whiff" for a month or so on jacks with the left side quite high of the ground.Could it be the gearbox oil has gone into the "speed o" cable or is the a common fault with that area of the dash the speed o was replaced in England when she has 41000 miles way back in 1980.That's why I figured the might be a common fault any info would be greatly appreciated. cheers RH |

Robert what did you do to stop the shuddering? I have some brake shuddering and we are going to replace the front rotors/disks and see if that sorts it out as i get a pulsing when braking. Any other points would be of interest to me. |

Hi Nigel. If the car has ABS check the sensors to the pads. They can come loose and give a similar reaction through the pedal.Regards, Nigel. |

I had a similar experience with a ticking noise comming from the speedo area. It was indeed from the speedo. The button that you press to reset the tripmeter was stuck in the pushed-in position. When I pulled it out the noise went away. Also, miraculously, the trip meter started working again too. It is an easy check to make and will take seconds to resolve if it is the same problem. All the best Omar |

Hi folks The brake shuddering in my car was caused by a buckled rotor on the left side front which I had machined. It was only a few thou out but it was enough to make brake peddle pulse when slowing down. When I first got the car the previous owner or someone, had put the wrong brake fluid in the system and this seems to have eroded the brake lines. The Brakes never completely released after applying and I recon this overheated the rotors, the big V8 just pushed it along as if there was nothing wrong. So I replaced all the brake lines machined the rotors and replaced the pads. I also think that worn out pin bushes contributed to the overall shuddering effect when applying braking. Thanks Omar its is stuck. I'll and squirt some lube in and see if this helps. cheers |

Dear Robert, If you have not squirted lube in it yet - then dont. It does not help. All the gears are plastic and they are by definition self lubricating. My concern is that you will inject an oily substance that will attract dust and dirt over the years and also leave beach marks on the lovely dial of your precison made speedo. Just pull the trip meter knob by hand and that should do the trick. Happy new year. Omar |

Hi Omar I was too eager and sprayed some lube in.It jammed and the speed'o' read 160ks even crawling down the driveway. So I took it out and removed the front glass undid the 2 screws and the center section came out easily. There was grime on this round pendulum wheel which l cleaned off including the lube I injected in the speed'o' works well now. After all that, the ticking was still there when applying the brakes ever so slightly.I tracked it down to the 3 rubber mountings on the drivers side blower motor rubbing the cowl when decelerating or on a decline.I had my son sit on the fender as I drove up and down the street before we picked it up .Quite a sight sitting on a fender of a Rolls Royce listing for rattles and such.new parts on their way. cheers Omar RH |

Hey Robert, Those darn rubbers eh? I once managed to locate them in the RS Components catalogue and bought some. They were a fraction of the cost of Rolls-Royce ones. I dont know if they still do them or not. These are well worth having as a spare set in the garage as they are as cheap as chips. Regards Omar |
