Can anybody please direct me to a practical flow diagram for the rear suspension hydraulics. The thing is I took the blooming lot off (don't ask!) - and now want to reinstate it. The parts fisch is not much good and shop manual shows nothing other than R&R/overhaul procedures. It's a '75 S1, SRH19580. Thanks, if you can help.
p.s. What a great site, pity the UK (RREC) can't offer the same (bit stuffy methinks)

Hi Billy,

Hope the attached is useful - this is extracted from the Shadow I workshop manual TSD2476 Section G. You can download this free-of-charge from the following link:

http://rroc.org.au/technical/G_Hydraulic_Systems-5088.pdf

Please note the early and late model RHD/LHD illustrations are both identified as late RHD/LHD respectively - the sequence is right as Figures 3 & 4 do show the front rams even though it is labelled "late RHD/LHD" - this is not applicable to your car but other readers may not be aware of this if they have early vehicles.

When I scanned the manual, I only had an A4 scanner so the A2 pages had to be done in two sections. I have recombined the the relevant diagrams for you as below:

application/pdfHydraulic Diagram
Later RHD Hydraulic Diagram.pdf (2482.7 k)

application/pdfHydraulic Pipework
Later RHD Pipework.pdf (4460.9 k)

Please be very careful when reconnecting the pipework to the rear height control valves as an incorrect connection will almost certainly damage the valve. You should get access to another Shadow and photograph the pipework extensively so you can identify which pipe goes where on each valve on your car as I assume you did not photograph and tag the pipes when dismantling the system [absolutely imperative when working on Shadow and later model hydraulic systems]. If in doubt, do not do anything until you check the installation on a similar vintage vehicle.

Good luck with reinstating your system but be VERY CAREFUL to avoid expensive damage from wrong pipe connections.

David,

Thank you so much for going to the trouble in posting your reply, the attachments are exactly what I need. Your cautions are noted, so it's back to the shed and the oily stuff.

Hi Billy,

Try the following link for the Rijker website:

http://www.rrsilvershadow.com/ETechn/Hydr/Menuschema.htm

A computer simulation of the Shadow Hydraulic system was designed by Tord Samdal from Norway and was demonstrated at a RREC Shadow technical seminar some time ago. A copy of this simulation may be downloaded from the following website:

www.samag.no/silvershadow/index.htm

I think you will find this of interest - thanks Bob for reminding me of these websites as I had overlooked them.

Thanks David, everything now crystal clear. It happens that I blagged a hasty play-school sketch from a dropped subframe, higgledy-piggledy pipes & all, (prior to my original post). After I had 'deleted' all the unions & line connectors, with only the bare bones remaining I was pretty close to the correct configuration. There is another bit to this story, but for another time maybe.
Kind regards
BH
Now, where was that chisel, hammer, stilsons.......
