I need to re-glue 2 veneer chips from the side of the dashboard. What would be the best glue to use? Thanks Ray Z |

First clean off any previous glue that might get in the way. Preferably with a burr tip on a tiny hobby drill (Dremel type). Then make sure that the chips will slip back into place without having to lift part of the remaining veneer or leave gaps around them. Now give each chip a thin coating of any contact adhesive on the underside and do the same for the top of the underlying ply. Leave for the prescribed time to dry (usually around 10 minutes) carefully align the chip with the space it came from and gently press back into place. The odds are that there will still be a line around the replaced chip and/or it will be above or below the same level of the surrounding veneer. A visible crack can often be hidden with a correctly colour matched fine point felt tip pen. Height is a lot more work as the varnish will have to very gently sanded back before filled in again followed by a serious polish to bring it all back together. |

Art shops sell felt tips in a huge range of shades of colour. After gluing study the woods individual colours. To lacquer use aerosols. There are web sites that show in depth how to do it. Patience is a virtue.

Jan, Bob Thanks for the help, when the weather warms up I will replace the chips. the chip is 99% complete with one small sliver to finish, luckily the door closes over the area concerned. Thanks again for you help. Ray Z |
